WebProteoglycans are a group of molecules consisting of a core protein and one or more glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains covalently attached to the serine residues of the proteins via the linkage tetrasaccharide (GlcAβ1-3Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Xylβ1-) region. Proteoglycans are mainly localized on the cell surface and extracellular matrix (see Figure 1 ).
