In Sect. 2, we propose a genetic algorithm for the large live parsimony problem, using algorithms to solve the small live parsimony problem. For this last one, we extended the algorithms of Fitch and Sankoff to deal with live phylogenies. In Sect. 3, we discuss the results obtained in two case studies.
